UAE Culture And Dress Code

Heya :)

UAE is a multicultural country where we have many people from many different cultures, backgrounds and continents!!! Despite this it doesnt mean that we should make our country and culture please them .. They should make an effort to adapt to out country and culture if not they'd better LEAVE ... AM SERIOUS!!!!!

Etiquette is important to us (Locals), and by making an effort to understand local custom and culture, many doors will open for them that if they make and effort. The culture here has evolved from a deep-rooted belief in Islam (Sigh), which is more than just a religion. It is a total way of life, which governs every activity and decision that is made in daily life. These are a few guidelines for behaviour and dress code that will become a part of your every day life in the United Arab Emirates.

What is a DRESS CODE???

Its a set of rules specifying the correct manner of dress while on the premises of the institution (or specifying what manner of dress is prohibited) and guess what we have a dress code here it is liberal in Dubai compared to other Middle Eastern cities, particularly in the residential western expat areas where women wear shorts and sleeveless shirts. However, Abu Dhabi is more conservative than Dubai and as a mark of respect it is advisable for women to dress accordingly. Long skirts or long trousers, and T-shirts or shirts with sleeves covering at least the upper arm should be worn in Abu Dhabi, and any area in the United Arab Emirates that is predominantly Arab. (I dont see that) Men may dress casually in the western expat areas, but should wear long pants when in Abu Dhabi or the downtown area of Dubai. The dress code is less formal for children, although adolescent girls would be advised to dress moderately in order to avoid attention. Both local men and local women are easily distinguished by their traditional dress, which is a common sight in the United Arab Emirates. Men wear the long white Dishdasha and headdress, while women wear the black Abaya.

Being an Islamic country modest clothing is recommended, particularly in rural areas!

Dress code is only a personal matter in regards to colour and style. I don’t really care if expats make up 85 per cent of this country, it is still a Muslim country with a Muslim majority and the dress issue is getting worse and worse every day. Have respect for our country, our people and our children who are forced to see your thongs showing over your low-waisted pants, and our kids say “mommy what’s that?” and then you have tattoos just above your waistline for extra effect.You also put your never ending cleavage on show, along with superduper mini skirts that show the puff of your bottom, which is bare because of the thong, and see-through blouses. Even forget that you are in a Muslim country and just be aware that other people are around you. I lived in the United States and believe me the way you people dress is seriously bad. Normal people in the United States have more dignity when it comes to dress and what is proper.

And guess what kissing and touching in a sexual manner in public isnt acceptable Men dont look at women that are covered right in the face or shake hands with them , women can ofcourse but not men. (but guess what they still do shake)

Lastly, Most of us live in a society in which men and women work together, study together and generally spend time together as friends/ lovers.. Here in UAE women work side to side with men.. but there are always limits.. never shake hand with a local girl!!!! She won't bite you! I mean local girls are open minded and generally cool.. but it's against the religion and the culture..

After seeing the head-butt video I was shocked when I came to understand why Zidane acted this way...

Materazzi twisted Zidane's nipple and then said something racist to him, and that made him lose his usual cool. It's not hard to tell what happened. No doubt Zidane will explain himself over the next days. In any case, this moment should not be allowed to overshadow his glorious career.

He has the total right to be mad, but what he's done was totally stupid and out of place. He could've replied Verbally! but still say Zidane is a hero and while he might have lost the championship he has won our hearts cause he will remain a hero in our minds forever for "defending his honor".

I remain in shock, though.

Spitting in public must stop. It is a filthy, disgusting habit done by ill-mannered, un educated and discusting people ... Apart from it being discusting saliva carries many easily caught diseases including tuberculosis, flu, encephalitis, meningitis and hundreds of cold bacteria. So why is expectorating in public on the rise? Why do we ignore and allow the nasty self-possession flingers to constantly bombard our clean world?

We get stuck in the traffic for hours and all we see is people spitting .. God!!
Something should be done!

Good Morning!!

Last week was a very tough and heavy week to me ... Loosing a person is never too easy!

Life is such a small worthless place ... *sigh* We will all die some day and all we will take with us

is our good deeds ... No clothes, no money, no friends, no nothing!

And while I was trying to survive the mourning and grief I was thinking to myself who will be there for me?

Do I have true friends who will stick by my side and help me get pass this grief?

Depression & Sarcasm

Hiya!

For a while I've been feeling disinterested all the time to the extend that I never even feel like getting out of bed, Just like am Bummin' on life. What's wrong with me? I never used to be like this ... Thinking of reasons was hard for me. Is it the blues or is depression over taking me??? I was told that feeling depressed or bummed out from time to time, is totally normal. (Thats a releif) But the problem comes when you're feeling completely out of whack for a couple of weeks, and life's becomes a real drag, this is the depression's serious phase .

A question pops out:

How can I tell the difference between being depressed or just being in a down, funky mood? I read the answer for this question somwhere it said that the first step is to understand depression. "Depression" is not a choice. It's like an ongoing state of being totally bummed out, and you can't just snap out of it. Many things can trigger it, like the:

Death of someone close
Unhealthy relationships
Family financial difficulties
Being the victim of any kind of abuse

Therefore depression is an illness, and because it is an illness, it is treatable. In most cases, you can get rid of it with medicine that keeps neurotransmitters (chemicals in the brain that affect moods) in check. Going to talk-therapy with a professional therapist is another form of helpful treatment.

The second step is to pay attention to your moods over a set amount of time (like a week) and rate your feelings using the following guide on a scale of one to 10.
Maybe you're just a tad moody, maybe it's more. It could also be just the blues or the lame weather. On this type of day, on a scale of one to 10, we're probably a one or two in terms of feeling sad. When we have bad premenstrual syndrome (PMS), we may be a three, tops. When you get around six or seven, depression is real. Your grades may begin to slip at school, and you may have trouble getting out of bed. In fact, you may not be able to get yourself to school at all when you are at seven or eight on the scale. It's OK to occasionally be around a three or four, even a day or two of depression at five. But when your depression has lasted more than two weeks, and you have four or five of the symptoms listed at left, your depression's serious and you should talk to someone, like a family doctor or clergyman.

Whenever you have depression of nine or 10, which is when you just don't feel like living anymore, you must get help immediately.

mmmmmmm ... I think that its a tad mood that's all from my side.

Other than depression .. What do you think of sarcastic people?? Are they unnecessary and blunt? I would say sarcastic to a certain extent is fine . Little sarcasm is entertaining and funny, but habitual sarcasms are rude, despite how creative your sarcasm turns out to be. It's annoying when I'm trying to be serious and they're unnecessarily sarcastic. It's like, okay, shut up now. Sarcastic people annoy me because the instances where people are sarcastic, what they say offends me or sounds very insulting. The people I've come across that are very sarcastic can take it to the extreme, or make themselves sound annoying.

Friday-Saturday weekend in UAE

Hiya

In September the UAE's official weekend will be Friday and Saturday. All public sector establishments as well as government and private schools will adopt the new weekend in place of the present Thursday-Friday.

^ I think that This change maybe be worth it for matters like businesses and economics and watever!!! But for the citizens it might not please them!!

C'mon!!!! Not all are adaptable to changes nor flexible PLUS it is not us!!
I dont know I have nothing against it but I feel its a big huge change!

Yesterday TL and I decided to go to Jumeira Beach with our sisters and friends ... To recreate ourselves so we did ... It was great we really did enjoy ourselves ... Sand, sun and beach it was heaven It was so relaxing and calming esp. to be since I have been living a hectic live ever since I started my work placement Thank God TL and Sakura.dxb asked me to join them ....

Stop Talking start showin heheheheheh ....

After we enjoyed ourselves we decided to head home but unfortunatly we couldn't because @ around 7:40 pm we were shocked to see flames and as we went closer we saw FIRE .. Yes OMG o_0 Whats going on!!!!

Finally we realised that a transport bus was burning .. It was a big fire and it was scary!
Still I don't know how it happened and I hope all of the passengers were able to leave the bus safely!!

But thankfully everyone did manage to get out...!

Lose the Fear - Get out there and speak.

You've heard it said many times before am sure the fear of speaking is considered by many as their number one fear, outdistancing death and divorce. There are legendary stories of entertainment superstars who undergo extraordinary episodes of stage fright immediately before they perform...They've experienced blurred vision, nausea, and headaches - even after performing hundreds of times. So, if these entertainers face anxiety on stage, is it any wonder that the rest of us may be fearful of appearing before groups? That anxiety may even prevent us from reaching our fullest potential since we may tend to avoid speaking opportunities altogether that could advance our career.

While there are many effective methods of relaxation that can help reduce our fear of speaking, the most important step is fundamental. We must begin by recognizing that making presentations is a learned skill. For most of us, it is not something we can simply get up and do effectively without having at least some basic training. Effectiveness is always a reasonable goal even with those executives who don't speak often. But perfection is unrealistic, and impossible.

The single most important thing you can do for sweaty palms is rehearse.

The more familiar you become with your material, the more the words flow from you credibly and passionately. The more comfortable you feel with your words, the more naturally you present your speech. That's why good speakers practice - and practice again. Here are two simple ways for you to rehearse your presentation. Remember that Nothing will improve your presentation more than seeing yourself on videotape and listening to yourself on audio tape is another tool to use when you rehearse your presentations. Perhaps the quickest way to decrease speech anxiety is to allow the emotion of the subject to fill your heart. Those who speak with passion will most certainly have less anxiety. As speaker Roxanne Emmerich says, "When you are so committed to the meaning of your message, you can't contain yourself and there is no energy left for being nervous."

Now lets imagine this You've just been introduced. You walk to the lectern and are about to say your first words. Wait! You have one more chance to unwind. Try this: pause for a few seconds and "take in" your audience. Establish eye contact with them. Breathe deeply, smile, and allow yourself to relax for a moment. Now you are ready to begin!

Presentations can't be that bad .. Be Confident and Don't let the audience forget you!

Hola amigos

Many people enjoy doing many different things. And many have different ways to delite and relax themselves ... I don't write to receive credit or satisfation, I write because for me it is just like breathing! Beleive me it is an exploration It is a medicine that makes me feel good .... And beleive it or not whenever am sad, tired and miserable I just wait for seconds and find ideas to pour out of me!

Today I went through my old writings and came across a story i wrote on March 2005 called "Reversed from death" and I would be glad to share it with you all [but amaze me with ur comments] ..

It was an ordinary day where I woke up and went to college. There I met some friends and talked about the same old stuff we talked about yesterday. When I finished my classes I decided to go home because I was tired. I got in my car and drove showed the security my ID card and waved good bye. I was tired and could barely open my eyes so I drove at high speed to reach home quickly and lay on bed.

Suddenly out of nowhere a large truck come out of nowhere and crashed into me. I was unaware of the time but all of a sudden I felt like flying. I looked at the corner of the room to find my parents in tears. I waved and shouted out loud but no one answered me nor saw me. Here I knew that I was dead and my soul now could fly everywhere and see the world without the fake acts of its people. I decided to wander around so I flew to my parents and kissed them. Then I found myself at the college doors and I hanged around people and heard them talk.

I found out that every two must talk about a third person in his/her absence. And everyone is nice to his/her friend as long as he/she needs him then its over. Anyhow there was no proof that they knew my death as my name was not mentioned. Then another friend appeared and broke the news of my death. Then the show began and it was time for me to know how these friends felt about me. Some were really touched, some cried and others showed no feelings and I started to hear how people felt about me. Some liked me and others didn’t. This is normal but what hurted me was that some of the friends those who I helped a lot and never let them down were not affected at all. They were worried about where to go to eat. Seriously it is sad!

After the show of “my so called friends” was over I began looking for my best friend. I searched until I saw here seated in her room wearing black, crying the tears of a lost friend. I came close to her and tried to wipe away her tears and tell her that am still around. But she couldn’t hear me so I sat close to her and heard her words about me and my tears flowed on my cheeks. I could not take this sad scene any longer so I flew back to the hospital to look at my body which was lying in the empty room.

Here comes a serious decision to make. Should I go back to my body and return to this world of lies or should I leave it? But then I thought that other than lies there are true feelings and people who loves me truly, so I decided to go back. I took a deep breath and creped back to my body and open my eyes to find my family around me telling me that I was much better and asking me to drive safely next time and that they loved me so much. Then I started to wonder about what I had seen and if it was true or not. Anyways now I know that my parents and family loves me, I promised myself to not upset them again.

My thoughts then went back to my angel, my best friend, the one who cried rivers of tears for my sake. I saw her the next day where she told me that she was calling me and was worried about me so I decided to not tell her about the accident and keep it a secret. And while I was talking to her one of my friends appeared and said that she missed me and asked me where we would eat that day. So I remembered my adventure and laughed and asked myself if yesterday was a dream or was I really reversed from death?

Wish me luck amigos I have to present in a PRESS CONFERENCE on Saturday and am already nervous yea well they say it will be good for me .. so why not take the chance! Anyways ...

"You can never outsmart getting hurt" I was watching Something's Gotta Give and this phrase just grabbed my attention and made me think ... Is it worth it to fall in love and get hurt by it Well I've been thinking alot .. if someone hurts you, betrays you or breaks your heart, try to forgive them because they have helped you learn about trust and open your heart .. It is DANGEROUS to love somebody too much and its sad when you know its their heart you cant trust. There is a reason why people dont stay who they are .. sometimes love just isn't enough! Therefore you can't outsmart getting hurt ... And for sure you can hide your heart away from the world ... but beleive me you will start to miss it. Ok tell me which is more painful, being lonely or getting your heart broken? loneliness is voluntary and constantly painful, but when your heart breaks ... and become painful it is only because you were so happy ... So just go with the flow and remember that you can't hide from love for the rest of your life ... It's just not a way to live!

BTW ... The truth has only ONE version and a glass is neither half full nor half empty!

WRONG PARKING .. DRIVING MANNERS!

I am so ANGRY ... God can't people think of others other than thinking of themselves always! ... Parking is another annoying (Thnx ShamC) issue other than Traffic and Speed ... Many places in Dubai have small parking lots and above that drivers do park in place of two cars .. Come on!

PARK WITHIN THE LINES

Many offenses take place everyday on roads. Overtaking, overloading the vehicle, driving a vehicle with expired registration, reckless driving, and parking on the pavement, obstructing traffic, jumping red lights or tinting vehicle glass beyond the permissible limits. Where are our driving manners?!?! OK I agree with the fact that life seems to be accelerating in pace and traffic jams are on the increase, and therefore stress is a growing issue for many drivers. But remember stress can make us aggressive drivers (we don't want that)!!

As a driver you have to share the road to keep traffic moving steadily and safely. This means you have to be as predictable as possible and do what others expect you to do For Example, drive within the speed limits, use your indicators and avoid sudden, last minute approaches. Make sure you have chosen the right lane corresponding with your speed if you are on a highway. Remember, you might own the car but not the road. So drive respectively and never block the passing lane. Be a polite driver (we lack polite drivers in our roads).

Show appreciation when another driver has let you into their lane by gesturing. A polite wave of appreciation will have a positive effect. You can create a more positive atmosphere for others and for yourself by giving way when appropriate.

Nowadays the weather is changing .. once its raining and once its foggy being careful while driving is a MUST to avoid accidents. BTW in such weather ppl do become stressed and angry and with ur politeness, contribution and good manners you can ease it on them!

Our driving manners must improve! I have always noticed bad drivers getting away with really horrible traffic ofences and people dont do anything about it , I on the other hand , well hehe , lets just say i drive after them and toot my horn for a good 30 seconds (It makes me feel better :p) And now Bus Drivers came up with a new attitude they just change lines with no signal and not caring who will be crushed next to them! COME ON .. In brief our driving manners can best be described as discourteous, impatient and unpredictable WHY?!
